Multiplier events in New York City

The second UCCRN_edu Multiplier Event “Bringing science in action: Educational resources to streamline climate-resilient urban governance, planning and Design” took place in New York hosted by the Associated Partner RAVEN A+U at the New York Institute of Technology. The structure and outputs of UCCRN_edu project were presented to maximise the involvement of UCCRN and international partners in key project results, such as the UCCRN_edu MOOC and Handbook. The opportunity to make some UCCRN_edu key student outputs (e.g. UDCW and Case Study reports) through shared UCCRN/MIT web resources was discussed with representatives of the Urban Climate Change Research Network Secretariat at Columbia University.

The event saw the participation of representatives from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA), In particular,  NSF presented the Research Coordination Network City-as-Lab which has a similar mission to UCCRN_edu, in view of consolidating the alliance between EU and US research and educational institutions as a follow-up of the ongoing projects. Key discussion topics focused on: Developing research directions for the areas where current knowledge gaps exist; Developing consensus on frameworks for integrated urban systems research; Creating networking consortium to deepen existing early-stage collaborations; Developing a dynamic education program for students with diverse backgrounds; Expanding the network and evaluate the success of the network activities.
